The Science of Spirituality

Since the earliest scientific discoveries, many of the greatest thinkers in of history have debated whether the world is driven by scientific knowledge or spiritual energy. Many of these debates were centered on the fact that there was a deep divide between the scientific world and the spiritual world. However, in recent years, some of the greatest scientific minds in the world have discovered scientific truths in the physical world that suggest intricate ties to the spiritual world.

It is now an accepted scientific fact that we are all matter contains energy. In fact, all of life, every single thing in our perceivable universe, contains all different forms of energy that can’t always been observed with the naked eye. Static electricity, the sun’s radiation and even the touch of someone’s hand reaching out to hold yours are just a few examples of the vast forms of energy found in the world. While many forms of energy are easy to identify, such as warmth from a campfire, other forms might be harder to identify. From the neurons that allow your heart to beat to the feelings and thoughts that make you a unique individual, energy is always a part of you.

In addition to the Universe being fueled by energy, there is a more recent scientific theory that is named “Quantum Entanglement” and goes into how certain forms of energy relate and interact with other forms. After elaborate experiments, physicists discovered that there are certain subatomic particles that remain together or “entangled” even when separated by great distances. The scientists able to separate the particles and found that even though they were a mile apart that the other particle would react in the same way to a stimulus applied to the other particle. Even though scientists now know that both particles will react to one stimulus, they don’t understand what actually drives this mysterious phenomenon.

In addition to all the exciting work done in the field of quantum physic, the science of dreaming is exploding with new revelations about the ways our brain works while we’re asleep. In a surprising new twist, sleep studies are showing that our brains are even more complex than we could have imagined and that dreams are not as simple as we seem. Who knows what the next generation of sleep studies will reveal about the link between human consciousness and the spiritual world.

Even with all the new and exciting advancements into how the Universe works, it’s important to remember that the knowledge base of what we know and understand grows every day. It wasn’t that long ago that people could only see what their eyes could perceive. Now, each new advancement in telescope, microscope or even computer processor means that we can delve deeper into the smallest particles and sub-particles that make our world go round.

So where will science take us? What will the next generation of technology and other scientific breakthroughs reveal about our world and the Universe? Will quantum physicists find that mysterious force affecting our Universe from outside or will our spirituality lead us to the answers that we seek or will we find a middle way? As we are able to shed light on the complex workings of the Universe, we may be surprised to find that science and spirituality are intimately entangled.
